Millie delivered our first lamb on the farm Saturday morning. She tried really hard to get it out by herself. I wasn’t going to intervene unless she really needed me. I let her push for quite a while but the head wasn’t budging. It was huge! I gave her just a little help to ease the head out.
It turns out he was a very large ram lamb. I mean the little nugget was born with German eyebrows and mutton chops. They have now turned into a beard. Poor Millie! Nobody wants to deliver a toddler their first time.
She licked him a couple of times but refused to clean him up. We got her to let him nurse if we were holding her. He was hollering for her over and over and she has not talked back to him once. So I finished cleaning him off. He has a days worth of colostrum. Now I have had to start bottle feeding.
He is so sweet. He snuggles in my arms and gives me kisses. He is now my baby. I am okay with that. If I do things right he will make an excellent teaching tool for the farm.
